Are You Chosen?

Luke 6:12-13 One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles.

Psalm 100:3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

I can't imagine what it might have felt like to be chosen by Jesus, knowing He is the Christ, to be one of the 12 apostles. Were they humble? Proud? Thankful? We don't know. But you should know that, if you are a Christian - if you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again on the third day and you have received the perfect gift of His sacrifice - you are chosen. Those who believe in Christ as the way of access to God, they become the children of God. They are chosen to be a royal priesthood to Him.

Now that we are growing into mature Christians and being the people God intends us to be, it is time to do the things that testify to others. Sometimes people get the being and doing in the wrong order. They think they can do good things to make themselves into the children of God. But the truth is, you must be a child of God to have the ability to do the things of God. Those who are not saved can do good things, but their good actions do not save them.

The things that once exclusively belonged to Israel – their election (chosen), priesthood, and calling are now no longer the property of Israel alone. These are now the property of every Christian, and we have them in a greater and spiritual sense. God takes ordinary people; and because He works in them, they become extraordinary.
