The Lord Is Your God

Ex 20:2 "I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.

The Lord is YOUR God. That is an extraordinary statement. It's personal. It's the epitome of love for you from your Abba, Father. God was speaking to the newly formed nation of Israel as a collective unit and perhaps addressing the law to each individual too. The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords is YOUR God. He is YOUR Creator, YOUR Savior, YOUR Redeemer.

Everything in the Torah flows from the love we have for God, which in turn is a response to the love he has for us. This love was demonstrated by God’s deliverance of Israel out of Egypt. Nothing else in life should concern us more than our desire to love and be loved by God. If we do have some other concern stronger to us than our love for God, it is not so much that we are breaking God’s rules, but that we are not really in relationship with God.

"Your God, who rescued you". Wouldn't you agree that when we received the gift of salvation we were rescued? For some of us the rescue is literal - from drug abuse or sexual promiscuity, for example. Some of us can associate our rescue with keeping us from the things that would harm us. Because of the love of God and our love for Him, we have been rescued from a potential life of misery.

He is Jehova-Rapha: Your healer. He is Jehovah Jireh: Your provider. Jehovah-shalom: Your peace.
I would encourage you to take some time with your family to meditate on the breadth and depth of God's love for you.

Rom 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-- not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.
